Does your child have an interest in adventures, history, nature, and hiking? Then this camp is for them! We will re-trace the steps of the early settlers of Akron as we will explore the Ohio & Erie canalway/towpath. Each camper will make a miniature wooden canal boat and test its floatability! We will visit the locks in downtown Akron starting our adventure at the Richard Howe House (home of the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition) to learn all about the lock system! Campers will then hike to Lock 2, 3 and 4 to check out all the interesting sites along the canal! We will continue our hike through downtown Akron along the towpath to Lock 15, where we will have lunch at the Mustill Store (a popular stop for many canalway travelers). We will learn about the history of the store and see some interesting artifacts; go on a scavenger hunt and more. Our 2nd field trip will be to the CVNP's Canal Exploration Center in Valley View! Campers will get to see a working lock, play with interactive games, go on a hike and learn about the canal from a park ranger.
